Travel has a way of releasing you from the everyday, stripping away the complication and hindrances of normative life. You carry only what you need, and you see only what you treasure. You must travel light, but it is that weightlessness that gives you the freedom to immerse yourself wholly in the experience of the moment. We make hard choices about what we bring: a well-worn book, a treasured watch, a favorite sports jacket; and through these choices, we experience a distillation of what we value.

The Aviator connected camera was designed with these considerations in mind; to be an authentic companion to the experience of travel.

The design of the Aviator camera emphasizes classic material and color combinations from an age when products were meant to be durable and timeless. Individual style variations are inspired by diverse and iconic travelers, from Ernest Hemingway to Amelia Earhart to Maureen Wheeler.

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” – Ernest Hemingway

First designed in 2008 by Modern Edge, the 2014 edition of the Aviator utilizes the Pelican PiCam, an innovative 4X4 camera array module that promises high quality images with the ability to refocus the image during post-processing. Based on light field technology, the PiCam is significantly thinner than conventional smartphone camera modules, has no shutter lag, and can generate a depth map of each photograph taken.

Water resistance, ruggedization, and connectivity are some of the requirements for an indispensable travel instrument. Based on explorations of different use cases, it was also determined that realtime cloud back up (when in range) and automated Bluetooth and near-field data downloads were a critical component of the Aviator experience.
